Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the results of the survey are due to Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates by Dec. 1.rnThe Pentagon surveyed about 400,000 service members and about 150,000 family members regarding a repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell' policy. Under that policy, more than 14,000 service members have been booted from the military since the policy went into effect in 1993.
