This article has provided an in-depth examination of the architecture of SharePoint products and technologies. WSS and SPS are two different products that have been designed to work well together. WSS provides the foundation for creating collaborative Web sites that support customization and personalization. SPS complements WSS by playing the role of a content aggregator. You have also seen that SPS is fully dependent on the underlying infrastructure of WSS. In fact, the more you know about the foundations of WSS, the easier it will be to get the most out of SPS. In one sense, SharePoint products and technologies reduce the need for custom software development because WSS and SPS provide so much functionality right out of the box.
