While reading the Viper and Corvette article in the March 2013 issue ("Monsters' Brawl Redux"), I noticed a statement: "Despite what the old dudes might tell you, we are living in the golden age of cars." Hard to argue with that, given the two supercars in the article. But as an "old dude" from the musclecar era, I think we had a golden age, too. Fifty years of advancing technology has given today's cars performance that couldn't be matched back in the day. But there were some other factors, too. In the 1950s/1960s, cars in general were almost universally perceived by the public as good and desirable. Not so much anymore.
