Boating has always been a big part of our lives, starting with kayaks before migrating to Drascombe Luggers and then a series of Moody and Najad sailing yachts until in 2015 Tricia and I purchased our first motorboat, a Dale Classic 45 called Arlette. Our subsequent adventures have taken us from Wales to Ireland, Scotland and across the North Sea to Denmark, Sweden and Norway, some of which were featured in the previous two issues of MBY. My other passion is for classic watches and it all started with David Hemery winning the 400-metre hurdles at the Mexico Olympics in 1968 in a then world record time of 48.12 seconds. I wanted to be able to time things to the same level of accuracy and pleaded with my dad to get me a watch. When he relented my obsession with how it worked led my nine-year-old self to take the back off and poke the hairspring - resulting in disaster.
