Downgrades For 2012 GDP Forecasts

The weaker performance in industries around the world, as highlighted in the January MSR, has been one of the factors behind downgrades to world economic forecasts for 2012 from both the World Bank and the IMF. As MSR reported last month, the World Bank made a sizeable downward revision to this year's global GDP projection from 3.6% (made in June 2011) to 2.5% on 18 January. Around a week later the IMF released its World Economic Outlook Update, which revised down several forecasts from September last year. World GDP growth in 2012 is now predicted at 3.25% instead of 4.0%, and then at 3.9% next year.
