Stuttgart 21 construction starts and protests intensify

Work on the Stuttgart 21 project started in August. It will result in the existing terminus Stuttgart Hbf being put underground as a through stationrn(this will be built at 90 degrees to the existing station) on a new high speed line from the northern suburbs of Stuttgart to Ulm via Stuttgart airport. Large scale protests in the city attracting over 30,000 people have occurred against the project.
