GREAT WESTERN WIRING PROJECTS DEFERRED

Rail minister Paul Maynard has confirmed that four projects within the Great Western electrification programme are being deferred, with no revised completion date announced. Electrification between Oxford and Didcot Parkway is to be put on hold, along with wiring of Filton Bank (between Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads), Thingley Junction (between Chippenham and Bath) to Bristol Temple Meads (which includes Box Tunnel and the historic Sydney Gardens site in Bath) and the Thames Valley branches to Henley and Windsor. The National Audit Office report into the Great Western programme suggests that the current intention is to complete these projects in Control Period 6 (2019-24).
