Bracing resin car kits with Lego blocks

When I began building HO scale resin boxcars in the 1980s, the early kits had thin, brittle sides and ends that didn't offer much surface area at the corners where strong joints were important. This made it difficult to assemble the bodies and keep them square, and the finished cars remained relatively fragile. Even so, these kits built up into beautiful models. I'd built several of Al Westerfield's early single-sheathed automobile boxcars and recall one of the biggest issues I had to overcome was squaring up the sides and ends during assembly.
