HEAVY INDUSTRY

Many model railroaders view a large industrial complex as simply a destination to drop off or pick up cars along the main line. Often an industry is only partially modeled. For my O scale LLG Specialty Coke Co., I did something different. My 6'-0" x 10'-6" layout focuses on a single industry. I've been interested in the way that the steel industry interacts with the railroads since reading Dean Freytag's book The History, Making, and Modeling of Steel (National Model Railroad Association). That interest developed further after I read Freytag's article series "The Davies Steel coke plant" in the April, June, August, and October 1991 issues of Model Railroader.
