The unit comprises two main parts: the mounting plate and the slide plate. These are clearly visible in photo 2. The mounting plate is bored to the diameter of the tailstock nose (photo 3) and clamped in place with a cotter pin (photo 4). Tightening the cotter pin nut by hand is sufficient to lock it firmly to the tailstock. The slide plate has a horizontal slot and slides over the mounting plate guided by two pins on the mounting plate. The slide plate also carries the hardened and tempered 60 degree centre (photo 5). The slide plate is attached to a small side plate carrying the feed screw. The hole for the feed screw is counter bored to half the thickness of the side plate. This counter bore accommodates the feed screw thrust plate. Photograph 2 shows the feed screw, counter bore and graduated thimble.
