A HOME-MADE VERTICAL SLIDE

The base is fixed to the lathe boring table with the holes used for attaching various pieces of other equipment. I used the two bolts under the single slot attachment and the two bolts immediately in front and slightly wider in pitch than the two for the top slide attachment. These positions can be spotted and drilled out to 9 or 10mm to accept the M8 × 1 screws. Just off the centre of the column there lies a cap screw which we cannot remove as it holds the feed nut for the cross slide but we have to drill a recess of 10mm by 4mm deep to let the base sit over it (photo 6). Photograph 7 shows the base firmly screwed down on the table.
