Birmingham City Council's long running search for a chief executive - resolved recently with the recruitment of Deborah Cadman as interim chief - may be the high profile recruitment campaign for the council, but it is by no means the only one. The authority is striding ahead with a structural overhaul that was part of a rethink of how it operates and where its priorities lie. Those priorities are to adapt to new ways of working, to step up the pace of growth, and to shift the council away from crisis management and into early intervention. While the restructure has just begun, the ambitions of the council are clear -and a plan to 'be bold' in the run up to the Commonwealth Games runs through the authority. For now, the council is hiring three new assistant directors; an Assistant Director for ICT and Digital, an Assistant Director for Housing Development, and an Assistant Director for Route to Zero Carbon.
