Those over-eager social media algorithms have been at it again. Facebook had apparently been issuing temporary bans and sending warning messages to anyone posting about Plymouth Hoe, seemingly confusing the landmark with misogyny. The Hoe, as it's known to locals, is a favourite spot for taking in the views of Plymouth Sound, famous as the spot where Sir Francis Drake brazenly insisted on finishing his game of bowls before seeing off the Spanish Armada 1588. In a tweet, Plymouth City Council thanked Facebook, but wryly remarked it feared for any posts about Brest Road. Naturally, it kicked off a thread of street names posted by residents that contained more innuendo than a Carry On film.
