Launch of large-scale virus testing to beat overstretched capacity

Brand new large-scale technology to increase the number of coronavirus tests that can be processed is being introduced as demand continues to rise. It comes amid concerns that testing centres are struggling to cope, with people sent hundreds of miles away to secure a test, and demand constraints on laboratory capacity. On one day last week more than 50 regional test sites were reported being at 100% capacity. Gateshead MBC's director of public health, Alice Wiseman, is among those understood to have expressed concerns that testing capacity had 'completely evaporated'.
