摘要

It's quite common now for senior managers (and politicians) to have a coach or mentor. But what's the difference? One definition of a modern mentor is someone who has been there, done the job, and can offer wise counsel. A coach, by contrast, is someone who asks enabling questions, so you can work things out for yourself. In practice, both coaches and mentors support and challenge managers and members on issues they find hard to share with colleagues, or on behaviours which may have worked elsewhere but are now not appropriate. So the boundaries between these two roles are becoming blurred.
