Councils throughout the UK are getting better. According to the CPA league tables, revealed by the Audit Commission, four out of five are in the top two Comprehensive Performance Assessment categories. In Scotland, Audit Scotland's overview report on local government recognised the improvements achieved by local government Both reports showed while councils are doing well, they have some way to go in meeting standards set by watchdogs. In England, local government minister, John Healey, pointed out that the Audit Commission report showed areas where councils needed to improve services and cut waste. North of the border, Audit Scotland said there was a need for an increased focus on key areas to meet the challenges.
