Halted ice rink project gets extra £550,000

An extra £550,000 has been invested in a permanent ice rink by South Cambridgeshire DC after buried explosives were discovered during construction.The council had already agreed in September 2016 to provide a £1.85m loan to Cambridge Leisure and Ice Centre (CLIC) for the new venue, which is being built on the edge of Cambridge.Building work on the site, which is being leased by Marshall of Cambridge to CLIC, began a year ago but was halted following the discovery of 194 World War II grenades, increasing the cost of the project.
