While the country faces up to the impact of its referendum decision and national politicians continue to deal with the fallout of the Brexit vote, one issue remains top of the local government agenda: health and social care. The combined impact of shrinking council budgets and mounting demand on services cannot be overestimated, with councils working round the clock to fight what many see as an oncoming care 'time bomb'. But how can this issue be addressed? One recent attempt has been the launch of 44 Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs) across the country to ensure services meet the need of the local population. This has not only bought about a significant change in processes but added a new level of co-operation between councils and the health sector.
