The Local Government Association's (LGA) new deputy chief executive, Sarah Pickup, has called for a 'fair funding deal' for local government - in exchange for supporting and developing communities. Ms Pickup, who is currently deputy chief executive at Hertfordshire, was appointed to the new role last week. In addition to leading the finance policy, she will also act as chief operating officer for the association. Writing for The MJ website, Ms Pickup said: 'Local government of course has an 'ask' of central government - for a fair funding deal reflecting the responsibilities we hold and the real positive impact we have on the day-to-day lives of citizens. 'But we also have an "offer"... which is that if there is real local, democratic control over more of what is spent by public agencies in each area, we will work with partners to ensure that the infrastructure, homes and services needed to support vibrant communities are developed and sustained.'
