Tackling gangs together

Back in 2010 the two tragic murders of Agnes Sina-Inakoju, 16, and Godwin Lawson, 17, were a catalyst for change in the borough. We recognised that the while vast majority of Hackney residents, young and old, were law-abiding and hardworking, the actions of a very small minority were having a significant impact. Hackney LBC made a commitment to do something about the borough's gang problems and we set up the country's first Integrated Gangs Unit (IGU). The IGU has dedicated teams from the police, probation, our children and young people's services, the Safer London Foundation and a Department for Work and Pensions advisor, as well as voluntary organisations working together to reduce gang-related crime in Hackney.
