Case Study: Kent CC

Kent County Council has been running a care leavers apprenticeship scheme since 2010. The scheme provides them with vital training and experience to help care leavers. Since 2010, Kent CC has helped 110 vulnerable young people, including 15 care-leavers, find positions with employers from across the county. Four apprenticeships have been created in the councils Virtual School Kent specifically for care leavers, giving them a chance to get on the first step of a career in social care. Kent CC also offers two-week work experience placements for children in care and care leavers aged 16 and above in services including information and communications technology, planning and environment, policy, Virtual School Kent, and the Independent Reviewing Officer Service.
