The Government's decision to set guideline council rents at 6% (The MJ, 29 January) is -as others have commented -scandalous given the current economic climate. Not only is the guideline increase entirely inappropriate in a time of rising unemployment and falling inflation, but it will disproportionately harm those who can afford it the least. like most councils, Waverley's housing residents are disproportionately more likely to be disabled or retired. They are some of the poorest and most vulnerable members of our society.
