Ex-leader calling for Cambs split

The former leader of Cambridgeshire CC has called for the county to be split into two unitary authorities in a bid to save cash. Writing in his blog, Nick Clarke admitted he used to be in favour of keeping the status quo as reorganisation was 'too disruptive' in a time of austerity. However, he now claims the shift to a committee system at the county has turned it into a 'slow moving, risk-adverse monstrosity'. 'A move to a unitary authority would now save lots of money, provide a better service to the public and is no longer a risk to a dynamic council because that has been trashed anyway by the move to a committee system.' Cambridgeshire CC declined to comment.
