Staff asked to take unpaid leave, consider redundancy or cut hours

A district council in Oxfordshire has written to its staff asking them to consider taking unpaid leave as part of a plan to cut town hall costs during the recession.All 534 staff at Cherwell DC received letters from the council last week, proposing the move.The letter also asks staff to consider taking voluntaryredundancy or cutting their hours, as the council seeks to save at least £2.6m by 2012.Chief executive, Mary Harp-ley, said the move was necessary to prepare for an expected cut in government funding from next year.
