State-funded pensions for cllrs

Cllr Richard Stay (Con) Executive Member for External Affairs Central Bedfordshire Council The DCLG are consulting on the future of publicly-funded pensions for councillors (available on the DCLG website for comment). I do not have a strong view either way on the principle, but on balance it is probably preferable to be able to offer councillors, who are increasingly being required to take career breaks or devote very significant proportions of time to perform senior local government roles, some provision for retirement.
