In 2010 Fenland DC made itself very unpopular. The Cambridgeshire district, renowned for its presence at local government awards ceremonies, scooped three MJ awards in one night, leaving little scope for anyone else.So the local government world will be pleased to hear the council has not put any applications in to this coming year's awards - its staff are giving everyone else a chance.While applying for awards was part of the council's strategy to boost confidence at the authority, there are a number of reasons why it has backed out this year, not least because of the financial climate - although senior staff and councillors always funded their own place at ceremonies.
