Rochdale MBC has become embroiled in a legal battle in the aftermath of the child sex abuse scandal which led to nine men being imprisoned last year, it emerged this week.Two private children's care home providers based in the borough have issued a High Court libel writ seeking £416,000 in damages for lost business against Rochdale leader CHr Colin Lambert and the authority itself.Meadows Care and Pathfinders Child-care claim eight local authorities - Cal-derdale, Doncaster, Ealing, Kirklees, Lancashire, North Yorkshire, Rotherham and St Helens - pulled children out of their homes and rescinded agreements after remarks from Cllr Lambert effectively warned councils not to place children in the borough.The providers are also seeking costs for reputational damage, which could potentially exceed the claims for lost business. A council insider told The MJ the quote was taken out of context from a Radio 4 documentary and misreported locally.
