CITEFA (Centro de Investigaciones Cientificas y Tecnicas de las Fuerzas Armadas) developed a short-range surface-to-air missile known as HALCON. The missile resembles the Roland SAM. Development was delayed for political and economic reasons.The HALCON uses flexible delta-shaped foreplanes, four fixed tailfins, and a thrust deflector system for maneuvering. The guidance system includes radar links, autopilot, a power source, a radio beacon, and an electromagnetic proximity fuze. The warhead uses an HE fragmentation charge and affords a kill zone of greater than 6 meters. The missile is stored, transported,and fired in its fiberglass container, does not require any maintenance, and has a five-year shelf life. This configuration will allow HALCON to be fired from Roland launchers.
