When Darren Jacklin and his dad, Colin, got this Mini Van back home after buying it, Colin was so appalled by the rot he uncovered, he almost demanded his money back (all £300 of it!). Initially, it had looked so promising and the advert had typically put a warm gloss over the car's failings. But 14-year-old Darren was determined and persuaded his dad to keep the car and spend the next three years putting it back together! So the 1981 Mini Van was pulled apart: Colin started cutting out the rust and young Darren was soon learning to weld. The floor was particularly bad and had to be completely replaced; there were also familiar failings in the sills, A-panels and front wings.
