In 1983, a year notable for Return of theJedi and Bob Marley's Buffalo Soldier, astute and far-sighted Mini enthusiast, 30-year-old Neil Anderson, bought a 14-year-old Mk2 Austin Cooper S, in good condition, for £1,800. "I'd say it was at the upper end of what they were going for then. It was not a concours car but was owned by an enthusiast who also had a Triumph TR4A. It was in very good condition." He was going to use it for a short while and flog it off but, 30 years on, he still has it. Bucking the trend of selling the Mini when a family comes along, he decided the S was going to be the only car for his family of four. "I bought the car in 1983 and it was our only car.
