Waste OCC Fibers Find Home As 'Trashanol'

International Paper has found a new use for the 5 percent of its OCC fiber that cannot be used in its production of recycled containerboard at its Cedar River, Iowa mill, the company reported. The 50,000 tons of residual fiber waste that IP produces annually is now being processed by Fiberight LLC for use as energy rather than being sent to agricultural company for fertilizer, animal bedding and other land applications at the cost to International Paper. The company started shipping Fiberight organic fiber waste from its Cedar River recycled paper mill at the beginning of May.
