OCC Demand Falls, Pulp Subs Are Hot

Demand for Old Corrugated Containers (OCC) has fallen, due to domestic mills curbing down their orders and export demand from China waning, report RM sources. "Export prices fell first as China believed the prices were too high and would not pay that amount, not to mention another increase in ocean freight. Additionally, with export containers being hard to come by in the Midwest now, there is more inventory spreading around domestically. This creates a larger domestic supply in mill inventories reducing the immediate need and thus price drops," said one scrap fiber broker based in the Midwest.
