As the one-year anniversary marking Superstorm Sandy's landfall in 2012 approaches, the Environmental Industry Associations (EIA) has honored all waste and recycling personnel who aided community recovery in its aftermath with the EIA Community Changemakers distinction. "Responding to natural disasters is not part of the everyday job description for waste management personnel, but it is part of their calling," said EIA President and CEO Sharon H. Kneiss. "Those who responded to Superstorm Sandy and spearheaded community recovery reflect the community spirit of this industry and are to be commended."
