摘要

This book is a very interesting account of what it really took to take the island of Tinian, which eventually became an important Army Air Corps base from which the two new B-29 bombers were launched to not only fire bomb Japan's cities, but to drop both atomic bombs on Japan's home islands. The choice of beaches on which to land the amphibious troops was quite interesting. It did fool the Japanese defenders; however, they were able to respond as best they could, and held out more than the American commanders had anticipated. The Japanese knew that if the Mariana Islands were taken, there was no doubt that the U.S. could bomb the home islands.
