Training Trends

摘要

What follows consists of recent news items from the Modelling, Simulation and Training (S&T) area. They are grouped first into Land Systems, followed by Maritime, Air Fixed Wing, Helicopter, UAVs, Air Traffic Control, Space, and finally S&T symposia and conferences. The importance of training using simulators is increasing, not only because the technology has improved enormously, but also because it is much less costly than using the real military vehicle itself in a training mode. A reasonable balance therefore needs to be struck between live and synthetic training. The proportion of simulation training has increased in recent times, and with budget cuts and drawdown from Afghanistan, is likely to increase further if the service life of expensive military vehicles and other equipment is to be preserved rather than expended in over-use in training rather than on combat operations.
