Too often men are unwilling to recognize or deal with depression. The reason, says New York psychiatrist Dr. John S. Tamerin, is "our culture expects men to be competent, optimistic, energetic, decisive, clear-thinking, happy, and sexually aggressive - all characteristics that depression impairs." Untreated, depression can ruin, limit, or even end lives. Fortunately, depression is treatable.
