From the Silk Road to the Information Highway and Beyond in China: Introduction

This issue of PDT&C focuses on cultural heritage preservation in China-and on the preservation of Chinese objects elsewhere. China's historic role in the history of cultural heritage and the dissemination of knowledge is significant and widely acknowledged; less is known to those outside the country about current preservation initiatives and activities there. Our aim is to lift that veil. The present issue contains articles and conversations about preservation and conservation. Even the "Comments and Currents" column is devoted to Asian activities, with an emphasis on China. We will continue to follow Chinese preservation activities; this issue is merely an introduction.
