Stanley's dream. The medical expedition to Easter Island

The title of this book refers to Stanley Skoryna, a surgeon and gastroenter-ologist at McGill University in Montreal. In the middle of the 1960s he had the idea of setting up a research expedition to go to Rapa Nui (Easter Island). His reason for doing this was that this island was soon to have an airport, in 1966. His idea was that an airport would disrupt the population in all kinds of ways, including socially and genetically. He planned a second visit when the changes he anticipated would be researched. On the first visit the team was there for four months, coincidentally at exactly the time when the people of Rapa Nui were protesting against the Chilean influence on the politics and lifestyle of the island.
