Humanitarian action and ethics

As the editors of Humanitarian Action and Ethics point out, the multiple values and principles that can influence humanitarian action form a sort of 'ethical matrix' (13:3) which must be navigated by individuals in diverse situations all with their own specificities. They argue that ethics are too often seen as separate and 'surplus' to practical action, whereas they should be an integral part of 'any discourse pertaining to humanitarian action' (3:33-34). This volume, with contributions involving 37 authors, makes a significant contribution to do just that.
