El síndrome de Münchhausen in Etiología, criterios diagnósticos y tratamiento

In this paper, we study a special kind of child abuse, the Muenchhauscn Syndrome by proxy, which consists of a group of diseases that some parents-invent in their own children. These parents describe false symptoms of disease in their children, or manipulate the bodies of their children in order to cause alterations. Their purpose is that the doctor will carry out diagnostic tests and medical treatments with the children who really aren't ill. Our objective is to understand this syndrome, so we can report the factors that influence its appcarence, study the diagnostic guidelines and the importance of doing a correct differential diagnostic with other real pathologies, and we analyze the preventive and therapeutic measures that health profesionals must carry out in children and in their parents. When these professionals understand this syndrome they will be able to detect it before children are subjected to more innecessary suffering. And. they will be able to prevent that these agressions on children continue.%En este artículo se aborda el estudio de un tipo especial de maltrato infantil: el denominado síndrome de Münchhausen infantil o por poderes, que consiste en una serie de enfermedades que algunos padres inventan en sus hijos, describiendo síntomas falsos en ellos o manipulando su cuerpo para provocarle alteraciones, con el fin de que sean sometidos a pruebas diagnósticas y tratamientos médicos. Con el objetivo de conocer este síndrome, se comentan los factores que influyen en su aparición, sus criterios diagnósticos, la importancia de realizar un correcto diagnóstico diferencial con las enfermedades reales. así como qué medidas preventivo-terapéuticas deben adoptar los profesionales. tanto con el niño como con sus padres, y de ser posible formando parte de equipos multidisciplinarios. La importancia de que los profesionales de la salud conozcan este síndrome, radica en que es la única forma de detectarlo antes de someter al niño a más sufrimientos innecesarios y evitar que continúen las agresiones, que pueden incluso hacer peligrar su vida.
