BPI to test beef for six non-0157 STECs

Dakota Dunes, SD-based Beef Prod-ucts Inc. is expanding its food-safety program by testing all of its ground and raw beef for an additional six, non-O157 pathogenic forms of E. coli, including: E. coli O26, O45, O1O3, 0111,0121 and O145.This industry-first initiative is part of the company's hold-and-test program through which BPI samples its lean beef products prior to sale and holds the products while awaiting test results for the presence of pathogens from in-dependent, certified, third-party labs.
