When it comes to transforming a meat-processing business, brothers Mike and Jason Trippett seem to have raised the bar. When Mike, a former mortgage broker, and Jason, a one-time business consultant, bought the 92-year-old Roy L. Hoffman & Sons family-owned meat-processing company in Hagerstown, Md., in 2011, they had little experience and knowledge about the meat business. "We knew it was a good opportunity to take over a long-established family meat company that had a sterling reputation," Mike explains. "We had a love for agriculture and envisioned an alternative to the way big meat companies were distancing themselves from the local economy."
