The goal of MEAT+POULTRY's annual Top Performers listing is to provide an overview of the meat and poultry processing industry's leading companies doing business in North America based on annual sales and to include any changes among them resulting from mergers, acquisitions or closures. In January 2020, no one could have predicted what the upcoming year would have been like including what the impact would be on food production in the United States. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a global pandemic - and the domino effect continued from there. As the virus started to spread around the country, meat and poultry processors had to make tough decisions about how to continue to run their businesses in order to produce food needed to feed the public, while also protecting their front-line workforce. Processors scrambled to revamp their production floors to accommodate social distancing requirements and safety protocols - installing temperature monitoring stations, contracting workstation barriers and instituting robust cleaning measures throughout their operations.
