Solid metals in contact with liquid metals are frequently encountered in high heat flux heat exchangers, mercury boilers, hot dip tinning or galvanizing operations, die casting, and similar processes. A certain degree of potential interaction can be predicted from binary-phase diagrams, and these interactions may be considered chemical in nature.
