In the present investigation we have prepared ZnO, CuO and CuO-ZnO nanocomposites thin films by spray pyrolysis method onto the heated glass substrate at 250 ℃. As prepared thin films were studied using XRD, FE-SEM to know crystal structure and surface morphology. Elemental composition was studied using energy dispersive of X-rays (EDAX). The average crystalline size was observed to be less than 32 nm. The gas sensing performance of pure ZnO, CuO and different composition of CuO-ZnO was studied on exposure of different gases for 600 ppm. The film sprayed for composition of CuO-ZnO (sample S4) was observed to be most sensitive (S = 89) to ethanol at 350 ℃. The sensor shows quick response (5 s) and fast recovery (7 s) time. The results are discussed and interpreted.
