Synthesis and Characterization of Cobalt Oxalate Nanomaterial for Li-Ion Battery

Liquid phase pulsed laser ablation (LP-PLA) is an easy, versatile, environmental friendly, and rapidly growing method for the synthesis of nanostructured materials. Nd:YAG pulsed laser operating at wave length 1064 nm has been used for ablation of cobalt slice to produce cobalt oxalate nanoparticles. Aqueous media containing cationic surfactant CTAB at different concentrations are used to produce Cobalt oxalate nanoparticles. The ageing and agglomeration of as synthesized nanoparticles have been studied by UV-Visible absorption spec-troscopy with respect to different concentration and time. Synchrotron X-ray diffraction has been performed for investigation of phase and structure of as synthesized samples. Particle shape, size, plane spacing and composition have been investigated by TEM, HRTEM and EDAX respectively. Room temperature magnetic properties have been studied by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). It is found out that coercivity (75 Oe) is very small comparison to bulk cobalt. Magnetic saturation magnetization is 0.0059 emu/gm. FTIR spectra of Cobalt oxalate nanoparticles also recorded for confirmation of oxalate group.
