Gateway: IHC Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger for Boskalis

In November 2007 IHC Merwede Offshore & Marine was awarded the contract for the design,rnengineering and build of two identical Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHD) for Boskalis Westminster Shipping B.V. The assignment is unusual in the fact that the ships are being built at the same time at two different IHC Merwede locations. The keel of the 'Gateway', one of the TSHD's, was laid on 4 February 2009. The vessel was completed at the end of the first quarter of 2010. The naming and launch of the 12,000m~3 TSHD 'Gateway' took place at the IHC Merwede Offshore & Marine yard in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, The Netherlands on Saturday, 26 September 2009.
