Steel wire ropes from Lankhorst Ropes have been ordered by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for their new oceanographic research vessel. The steel wire ropes will be used on oceanographic, general purpose and auxiliary drum winches. The state-of-the-art, ocean-going, HHI vessel is capable of surveying to the full ocean depth (10,000 metres), using advanced exploration capabilities. Lankhorst is supplying two 8,000 metre Lankopacks and one 6x36 RWIC IWRC steel wire rope. The 30 millimetre Lankopack rope with 83.4 mT MBL will be used for the vessel's traction winch, while the 16 millimetre Lankopack with 23.7 mT MBL is being used for a general purpose winch. The 12 millimetre 6x36 RWIC IWRC rope with 10.2 mT MBL will be deployed on an auxiliary winch drum.
