More than 2,000 exhibitors from all over the world on more than 90,000 square metres of exhibition space, with every hall dedicated to one particular field of the maritime industry, and more than 50,000 expected visitors: SMM 2014, with the overall motto 'Innovation', promises to again become the centre of the maritime world from 9 to 12 September. With German chancellor Angela Merkel being the patron of the event, the international shipbuilding, machinery and marine technology trade fair held at Hamburg Messe, Germany, was already fully booked in May, said Hamburg Messe und Congress president and CEO Bernd Aufderheide during the Advance Press Conference in Hamburg on 22 May 2014 in front of over 50 Journalists from all over the world. Aufderheide was accompanied by Herbert Aly, CEO and managing partner at Blohm & Voss shipyard, Govert Hamers, chairman of SEA Europe, Patrick Verhoeven, secretary general of the European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA), Reinhard Lueken, general managing director of the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association (VSM) and Max Johns, managing director of the German Shipowners' Association (VDR).
