Royals Boskalis Westerminster and SAAM have announced a new partnership between SMIT, a wholly owned subsidiary of Boskalis, and SAAM to create a joint harbour towage operation within the American continent in Brazil, Mexico, Canada and Panama. They will operate under the name of SAAM Smit Towage, which will have a fleet of 100 tugboats that will operate in around 30 port terminals. The partnership consists of two joint ventures. In the first, Boskalis and SAAM both hold a 50 per cent share, and the joint venture will be operating in the Brazilian towage market. SAAM has a 51 per cent majority stake in the second joint venture, which will be operate in the main ports of Canada, Panama en Mexico.
